The audience included\u00a0 prominent figures representing \u00a0educational, artistic and cultural areas of the Valentano community and towns nearby.<\/p>\n<p>They had gathered to hear the author talk about the inspiration for the book and her research into Garibaldi\u2019s stay at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1854 and \u00a0the city\u2019s strong support during \u00a0Italy\u2019s struggles for independence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Dsc_2888-cf7.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5269\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/th_Dsc_2888-e1b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Dsc_0132-38b.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5283\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/th_Dsc_0132-167.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alan Brison explained the history of the River Tyne and surrounding area and his illustrations which complement the text. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Readings were given by Vera Risi whose lively and sensitive rendering of the extracts highlighted episodes in the book.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Dsc_0136-cd3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5297\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/th_Dsc_0136-e3f.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Dsc_2962-19b.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5311\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.valentano.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/th_Dsc_2962-377.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Professor Bonafede Mancini\u2019s contribution to the evening programme was a succinct and clear description of events in Valentano and the Tuscia-Viterbese area before, during and after the Garibaldi visit to Newcastle.
