The harvest of the green is initiated a couple of days in advance, followed by the more delicate harvest of the petals and of the buds; the sketches are arranged with the neighborhood, some outlines of cardboard or sketches on paper are prepared or taken back by those of the past years.

The evening of the eve everything is ready: sketches, petals, leaves and coloured dusts... everybody set the alarm clock and, on the following morning in the street, bent with patience, focusing each on his own bit of ornament, small part of a project that often concerns the whole road.

In 1263, a Bohemian priest came to Bolsena. He had some doubts on the transubstantiation (the kinds of the bread and the wine stay unchanged while the substance transustanzia in body and blood of Christ). During the celebration of the Holy Mass, the Wafer began to drip blood, drenching the corporal and the stone of the altar. The pope Urbano IV was in the near city of Orvieto and the people of Bolsena, that had assisted to the prodigy, took the flax of the bloody corporal and brought it in solemn procession to the Pontiff, which recognized the miracle and instituted the solemnity of the Corpus Domini.

(Mt 26,26) Mat 26,26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

«I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.» (Mt, 26,29)

The marian cult in Valentano is deeply felt and, also in the sketches for the solemnity of the Corpus Domini, it never misses a homage to the Holy Mother. «And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars» (Ap. 12,1)

«Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body,
for we all partake of the one bread. .»
(I Cor 10,17)
